ScoreFlipper

ScoreFlipper™ 2.0

ScoreFlipper™ allows you to thumb through an online musical score as if you were holding it in your hands, with the added ability to hear the music synchronized with the pages viewed. As playback progresses, the pages will automatically and realistically turn.  If you manually turn a page (by clicking/grabbing a page, pressing a page turn button or moving the sound playback slider), the playback advances to match the pages you are viewing. The scores load quickly using any web browser under Windows, Macintosh or Linux.  ScoreFlipper is based on Adobe Flash technology already installed on 99% of Internet enabled desktops, so it works for virtually everyone without the need to install a new browser plug-in.

...in addition to all that, ScoreFlipper is simply a lot of fun to watch and play with!  Grab the edge of the page, move it around and then flip it over.  But be careful, it may be habit forming!

Listen to what people are saying about ScoreFlipper:

"It's pretty cool...what a great way to watch the score and listen at the same time.  Bravo."

Michael Moore
Principal Tuba, Atlanta Symphony Orchestra

"ScoreFlipper is a terrific way for a musician to evaluate a piece of music before purchasing it.  As a trombone player I would like to be able to see and hear the entire trombone part and the entire tune before laying out cash for it. ScoreFlipper does great job of helping me make better music purchase decisions and I appreciate it."

John Monroe
Ohlone Wind Orchestra and Principal Trombone, Brazzissimo

ScoreFlipper FAQs

What is ScoreFlipper?

ScoreFlipper is our web based technology that allows you to thumb through an online musical score as if you were holding it in your hands, with the added ability to hear the music synchronized with the pages viewed.

Who made the ScoreFlipper technology?

ScoreFlipper was developed by Art of Sound Music, as our staff is savvy in both music and software development.

Why did you develop ScoreFlipper?

ScoreFlipper was developed to allow our customers to see and hear music before making a purchase, thereby reducing the risk of getting something that doesn't meet tastes, needs or skill levels.  After looking at the various means out there to show music to customers today, we thought there had to be a better way.

In our view, the online marketplaces and sites from the notation companies and music publishers have a number of drawbacks such as:

For customers:
•  Large, clumsy plug-ins that frustrate customers and don't work on certain platforms
•  Cheesy integrated MIDI playback or no playback at all
•  Some sites only show you a small portion of the score
•  Some sites only work with Microsoft Windows
•  May not work with new browsers...like Google's Chrome

For composers/arrangers:
•  Only functions with very specific format files
•  High fee structure or inability to sell scores at all
•  Technically or logistically difficult to upload scores or get works listed

We’ve created an alternative that retains some of the good qualities of these sites while avoiding some of the pitfalls:

•  We can work with the output of any music notation program (Sibelius, Finale, Lilypond, Score, etc.) or any graphics format (jpg, png, gif, TIFF, PDF or even manuscript!)
•  We have integrated playback of  high quality computer or “real musician” generated MP3 file and page flipping...no more cheesy MIDI playback
•  By showing 2 full pages side by side and giving you the ability to manually or automatically turn pages, ScoreFlipper makes you feel like you're really holding a real score in your hands.  No horizontal or vertical scrolling is required for most users.
•  ScoreFlipper is compatible with every major web browser and works on Windows, Macintosh, Linux and Solaris.

Is the sound I'm hearing MIDI or computer generated?

With ScoreFlipper, the sound files can be live recordings of "real" musicians or a computer generated realization.

I'm interested in using ScoreFlipper on my site for my scores...how can I get more information?

Please contact us for more information.

Why would the sound playback be delayed or stutter?

If you own a very old computer, ScoreFlipper playback may be a little choppy and/or the pages may turn slowly.  If you have a low bandwidth Internet connection, it may take a bit of time for all of the information to reach your computer, but when it does, everything will play fine.

Will ScoreFlipper work well with my computer?

The vast number of people who have tried ScoreFlipper have had no problems hearing and seeing the music.  ScoreFlipper is based on Adobe Flash technology already installed on 99% of Internet enabled desktops, so it works for virtually everyone without the need to install a new browser plug-in.

ScoreFlipper is compatible with every major web browser and works on Windows, Macintosh, Linux and Solaris.

What is new in ScoreFlipper 2.0?

Production Release 2.0 is the second generation of our technology which delivers what we call "Single Player". Single Player streamlines the score posting process, enables quick sitewide enhancements and reduces storage requirements on the server.

Who can benefit by deploying ScoreFlipper?

  • Sheet music publishers and retailers like Art of Sound Music that  want to give their customers the best possible way of auditioning music before they buy.
  • Educators looking to provide a richer, easier way of demonstrating arranging, composing and music appreciation concepts to their students – either in the classroom and/or on a website.
  • Composers and performers looking to demonstrate their music and performances to others.

Do you plan to enhance ScoreFlipper and add new functionality in the future?

Yes, we’ve only just begun!
