Composer Mateo Flecha el Viejo (1481 – 1553) was born in Catalonia, in the region of Prades. A popular composer of Madrigals and Ensaladas (collections of polyphonic secular music), his “Riu Riu Chiu” is a Spanish Villancico (Christmas Carol) and is among the best known melodies of the Renaissance
