God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen

"God Rest Ye Merry, Gentlemen" was first published in the 1700s and has remained popular to the present day, although its minor key may not seem, on the surface, very festive for a Christmas Carol.

This is a traditional arrangement of the Christmas tune that features solo tuba in the middle section. The ending for 1st Trumpet is fairly high (up to concert D6) and is the reason for the grade 5 rating.

The 1st trumpet part in B♭ works best when the ending is played on B♭ piccolo trumpet.
