Tinga Layo is a traditional West Indian folk song about a donkey. The reggae groove stated by the low brass and percussion drives the song. The clarinets, trumpets, and alto saxophones provide the harmony and rhythm normally played by the electric guitar in a reggae band. There are many written solos that challenge the motivated and talented members of each instrumental section, and a half step modulation allows the students to explore the folk song in two keys. Good Luck!

Flutes, Oboes, Clarinets 1-2, Bass Clarinet, Bassoon (doubles trombone 1), Alto Saxophone, Tenor Saxophone, Trumpets 1-2, Horns, Trombones 1-2, Baritone (doubles trombone 1), Tuba, Guitar (doubles bells), Violin (doubles bells), Bells, percussion.
