The "St. James Infirmary Blues" is an American Folksong of anonymous origin. The title is derived from St. James Hospital in London, a religious foundation for the treatment of leprosy. The melody is based on an 18th century English folk song called “The Unfortunate Rake”.
The classic "St. Louis Blues" is arranged here for 5 Tenor and 3 Bass Trombones. A Tuba may be used in place of (or in addition to) the 3rd Bass Trombone. There is an optional solo section with changes in the first and fourth trombone parts.
"The Entertainer" is Joplin's most famous work. This great arrangement brings the popular piano rag to the trombone quartet without sacrificing any of the nuance and style of the original.
"The Ragtime Dance" is derived from a much longer stage work of the same name, composed by Joplin several years before the popular rag version you hear in this arrangement.
