Nola for Ned is a piece emulating music heard in New Orleans during a Mardi Gras street celebration. There is a constant rhythmic pedal in the low brass and percussion, which provides foundation for the woodwinds and brass to trade solis. The middle of the piece breaks down to stomping and clapping, and a modulation from concert F mixolydian to concert G mixolydian. From the 3:2 clave pattern repeated through different sections of the band to a catchy melody, Nola for Ned is a great toe tapper that students and audiences will enjoy.
