"This peice was commisisoned by and written for Carl "Doc" Severinsen in 2015. There are three movements inspired by acoustic ambience.
- Daybreak (a.k.a. The Stairwell)
- Alley Song, utilizes the alley's natural echo, along with a story of a trumpeter down on his luck.
- Locomotion is about the performer's journey from place to place throughout their career. This movement has a short passage for improvisation.
It was Doc's idea to incorporate somehow, the reverb or ring of a stairwell. Doc loves practicing and warming up in Stairwells back stage, which gives lots of ring and natural reverb. This version is for Solo Trumpet and Band. The version for orchestra may be found here.
