Mikołaj Zieleński, one of the earliest known Polish Baroque composers, published Benedicimus Deum coeli (“We Bless the God of Heaven”) in 1611 as part of a collection of sacred works reflecting both Renaissance polyphony and the emerging Baroque style. Written for the Feast of the Holy Trinity, the piece combines flowing melodic lines and imitative textures with a clear expression of the sacred text. Reverent yet joyful in character, the work reflects the influence of the Venetian polychoral tradition while offering a glimpse into the rich but lesser-known sacred music tradition of early 17th-century Poland.
