Galliard Battaglia was composed after the galliard dance form of the Renaissance era in Europe in the 16th century. The athletic jumps and moves of the dance are captured musically in intervallic leaps and ornamented figures. The middle section's 8th note driven figure contrasts well with the opening dance theme which returns at the end.
