The composer writes…
This little waltz was written for and received an honorable mention in the 2017 composition competition of the Twin Cities Horn Club of Minneapolis/St. Paul. It contains a section where two or more players are invited to improvise. Although the piece could be performed without improvisations by omitting measures 73 – 188, it is to be hoped that players will not be daunted at the prospect of improvising.
The piece may be performed with varying stage setups, with the horns grouped in an arc, in two choirs of six horns or six parts each, or in a full antiphonal setup. While the grouping is primarily for two sextets, one player or another will often play with the other group. Whatever stage setup is chosen should keep this in mind.
