This piece is a collaborative composition between James Nova of the Pittsburgh Symphony and Chris Bill, trombonist extraordinaire and YouTube overdub sensation. James improvised and audio/video recorded the first part alone, basing it on Albanian folk melody his mother used to sing. That sung melody is coincidently the thematic material for the first movement of a trombone concerto his father composed for him.
Chris took James’ audio and composed the other three parts as an accompaniment. He then recorded the parts as an overdub to create a complete and engaging composition.
As far as what ‘FC’ means, James writes…
“FC is an enigma…it’s the first 2 notes of the solo! More than that, people will figure it out…initials maybe? Who knows… ;-)”
Grade 5 for extreme high register work at end. Rest is grade 4.
Nice rendition here by James and Chris
