Circuite Suicus

“Circuite Suicus”, and original composition for 6 trumpets.  

The composer writes:

“Nothing more than a spoonerism of ‘Circus Suite,’ Circuite Suicus is a piece inspired by the writing style of Iain Ballamy. His music, written for the movie Mirror Mask, gave me the idea for writing a three movement suite for trumpet ensemble. I have always enjoyed the sound of dissonance and non-traditional scales. By using a sort of gypsy scale in “Fanfare” and sequencing in “Trapeze,” I was able to show the playful nature of these sometimes aesthetically pleasing techniques. A place typically for families, the circus has a very traditional sound. Because there are traditional sounds for the circus, I wanted to make this work more non-traditional while utilizing the styles more than the actual harmonic structures already in place.”
