Song for Trumpet

Song for Trumpet was composed for Chicago area trumpeter Mark Baldin. It begins in a very lyrical character, displaying the instrument’s sheer ability to sing over the piano’s colorful accompaniment. It then moves briefly into a change of mood: a lighter, scherzo-like section which features nice interaction between the piano and the trumpet. Arriving at a powerful cadenza, the trumpet returns to the lyrical theme for a reflective close.
