Buccinate in neomenia tuba is a sacred motet by Venetian composer Giovanni Croce (c.1557–1609), a member of St. Mark’s Basilica and a contemporary of Giovanni Gabrieli. The Latin text comes from Psalm 81 (“Blow the trumpet at the new moon”) and reflects the liturgical traditions of late-Renaissance Venice, where ceremonial music often featured clear declamation and antiphonal writing suited to large church spaces. The work demonstrates Croce’s practical church style, combining straightforward polyphony with rhythmic clarity typical of the Venetian school at the turn of the 17th century.
