Allegri’s “Miserere Mei, Deus” is a setting of Psalm 51, and was composed in the 1630’s for use in the Sistine Chapel. Although its publication and dissemination was banned by the church, several composers (Mozart is the most famous) where so moved by the beauty of the work that they made unauthorized transcriptions.
This arrangement requires the first trumpet player to alternate between Bb Trumpet and Bb Piccolo trumpet. There are several points at which the arranger has added optional cuts, so the length of the work may be tailored to fit the requirements of the performance.
