Many churches welcome the efforts of brass musicians to enliven their worship services. While musicians often perform classical or other music in churches, music based on familiar hymns seems more meaningful to many worshippers. For this reason, these new settings of four favorite hymns are presented here. Each setting is given with a widely-known hymn title. In some cases, the tune is almost universally associated with that title, but, in other cases, more than one text has been connected with the hymn tune. In this collection, the title judged to be best known appears.

1. “Crown Him with Many Crowns” is based on the tune “Diademata” by George J.Elvey from 1868.

2. “Abide with Me” is based on the ever-popular 1861 tune, “Eventide” by William H.Monk.

3. “Rise Up, O Saints of God!” to William H. Walter’s “Festal Song” of 1894, appears insome hymnals as “Rise Up, O Men of God!” or as “Arise, Your Light is Come!”

4. “Come, Thou almighty King” is set to Felice Giardini’s “Italian Hymn” of 1769. Thetune accompanies many different hymns, including “Come, Holy Ghost, in Love,”“Thou Whose Almighty Word,” and others.
