French Romantic composer Camille Saint-Saens produced Le Carnaval des Animaux (The Carnival of the Animals) in 1886 while vacationing in a small Austrian village with family and friends. Conceived as a satirical, musical diversion for the entertainment of the gathering, the playful, fourteen-movement suite is today one of his most popular works. The Swan is by far the most famous of the movements and the only one the composer allowed to be published in his lifetime. Originally a piece for cello and two pianos, the lushly romantic cello solo is performed by trumpet while the organ picks up the rippling sixteenths of the pianos.

This was recorded on "The Lyrical Trumpet 2"
