This arrangement of Bernard de La Monnoye's Burgundian carol from ca.1720 is one of two pieces commissioned by Phil Smith for the New York Philharmonic Principal Brass and Percussion/Canadian Brass Holiday Brass Concert in December 2008 at (then) Avery Fisher Hall, Lincoln Center, New York City. The intent, not surprisingly, was to feature the timpanist and percussionists of the NY Philharmonic. The Timpani part may be played on steel drums (pans) as a play on words of the title (part available upon request).
